Why it's free

We have too many. Our loss is your gain.

We overestimated demand and ended up with far more EcoFix units than we can sell before our new inventory arrives. Every month they sit on a shelf, we pay to store them.

So instead of paying rent on boxes, we'd rather get them into drivers' hands. You get a genuinely useful tool for the cost of shipping. We clear the shelves, and we hope you'll remember us next time.

When this stock is gone, the clearance is over.

The problem

The light isn't the expensive part. Not knowing is.

When the check engine light comes on, most of us have no idea whether it's a loose gas cap or something serious. So we drive to the shop, pay for a diagnosis, and wait to hear what they say is wrong.

That wait is when you're easiest to overcharge. A vague problem is easy to pad with repairs you don't need, and you have no way to check.

It happens to some drivers more than others. Researchers at Northwestern University found that when women called repair shops without knowing the going rate, they were quoted higher prices than men. The gap disappeared once they mentioned the right price.* And it isn't only women: anyone who seems unsure what's wrong, older drivers included, is an easier target.

EcoFix puts you on equal footing. Before you talk to anyone, you'll know the exact code your car is reporting, what it means, and how urgent it is. You're not waiting to be told what's wrong; you're checking their answer.

Why drivers love it

Small device. Big difference at the repair shop.

Walk into the shop informed

Show the mechanic the exact code on your phone. A clear, specific problem gets a clear, specific quote, and it's much harder to be sold repairs you don't need.

A driver reading the EcoFix app on her phone, connected over Bluetooth

Plain English, not mechanic-speak

Instead of "P0455," you'll see something like "Large leak detected in the fuel vapor system; check that your gas cap is tight." Sometimes the fix really is that simple.

Plug it in and forget it's there

EcoFix is about the size of a matchbox and pushes straight into the port under your dashboard. There's nothing to wire up and no car knowledge needed.

How it works

Up and running in about two minutes

  1. 1
    Plug it in

Find the port under the driver-side dashboard and push EcoFix in.

  2. 2
    Download the free app

From the Apple App Store or Google Play, then pair it over Bluetooth.

  3. 3
    Scan

Tap scan and read what your car is telling you, in plain English.

Huge time and money saver

I have come to depend on it. It saves time and money. Eliminates a lot of guesswork. I like it so much I bought 4 more at Christmas and gave them to my kids, so I didn't have to lend mine!

This thing will save you cash

I should've written this review a long time ago. This thing saved me money, and I mean a lot of money. I recently bought a used car and this helped me weed out like 10 lemons. Ended up buying a car that was in much better shape for a really good deal.

Not just for mechanics

This product paid for itself the first time I used it. I'm not a mechanic, but I've used this device on multiple cars with great success. The device connects via Bluetooth and in my opinion, this is what enables the capability most helpful to a rookie like myself. I was completely blown away by the capabilities.

Frequently asked questions

What is an OBD2 reader, and will EcoFix work with my car?+

Every car built since 1996 has a small computer that monitors the engine and flags problems. That's what turns on your check engine light. EcoFix plugs into your car's diagnostic port (called the OBD2 port) and sends what that computer is saying to your phone. It works with gas cars and trucks from 1996 onward and diesels from 2008 onward. It doesn't work with fully electric vehicles.

Where do I plug it in?+

The OBD2 port is almost always under the dashboard on the driver's side, within about two feet of the steering wheel. It's a 16-pin socket shaped like a rounded trapezoid. If you can't spot it, try a flashlight, or search "OBD2 port location" plus your car's make and model.

How do I set it up?+

It takes about two minutes, and you don't need any tools. Plug EcoFix into the port, then turn your key to "On" or start the engine. Download the free EcoFix app from the Apple App Store or Google Play, turn on Bluetooth, and follow the app's pairing steps.

My check engine light is on. What do I do?+

Open the app and tap scan. EcoFix reads the error code (for example, "P0420") and translates it into plain English, so you know what's wrong and how urgent it is before you talk to a mechanic. That way you walk into the shop informed, and it's much harder for anyone to upsell you on repairs you don't need.

Can I turn off the check engine light myself?+

Yes. Once the problem is fixed, you can clear the code from the app. If the light comes back, the problem is still there, and EcoFix will tell you what it is.

Why is it free?+

Plainly put, we have too many. We're clearing out warehouse stock to make room for new inventory, and it costs us less to give EcoFix away than to keep storing it. You just pay $9.95 shipping.

We're also using this deal to introduce our new Membership Rewards savings club, and joining is completely optional. At checkout you'll see the club box already ticked, and you can untick it if you'd rather not join. If you keep it, your first month is free. After that it's $19.95 a month until you cancel, and you can cancel anytime by phone at 1-800-418-3997 or by email at support@thetechstone.com. Membership is backed by a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Returns: Try EcoFix for 30 days. If it's not for you, send it back. There are no restocking fees and no hassle. You only cover the return postage, and the original $9.95 shipping isn't refunded.

Stop guessing. Start knowing.

Get your EcoFix free while clearance stock lasts. Just pay $9.95 shipping.
